Extracting visual information from real world environments

Konica Minolta Laboratory Europe is building a platform that systematically correlates visual information about the surroundings with digital knowledge contained in an underlying enterprise database.

For instance, by exploiting state-of-the-art technologies in image understanding, machine learning and augmented reality we understand what the user is looking at when they are reading a paper document, viewing media on a tablet, or what they see within their broader working environment.

The focus is always on triggering the appropriate response depending on the context and the needs of the user. In addition we are integrating multiple-sensor data into the platform enabled by the Internet of Things, smart data collected at the semantic layer and the needs of the unique user.

Konica Minolta Laboratory Europe’s final objective is to develop the systems that will enable users to improve information flow and also to automatically access visual information. The solutions we develop may find applications in the fields of security, medical imaging, robotics, support to industrial manufacturing activities and in the workplace of the future.
